New Starters - September 2018

We are delighted that  your child has been allocated a place to start their ‘Learning Journey’ with us at

Norristhorpe Junior and Infant School.

In order to prepare your child for their time with us, we will be holding an information meeting on Tuesday 12th June at 6:00pm for parents and carers. At this meeting you will  be provided with important information about our school,  have the opportunity to meet the  Head Teacher, Deputy Head Teacher, members of the SLT (Senior Leadership Team), your child’s class teacher and visit the classroom which your child will be in.  You will receive a formal invitation to this meeting through the post in the next few weeks.

We look forward to meeting you on Tuesday 12th June.

Mrs V Shea

Assistant Head Of Lower School

Dear Parents / Carers of September ’18 Reception Starters,

The staff at Norristhorpe Junior and Infant School are committed to creating a strong partnership with parents / carers. We would therefore like to welcome you to our school.

Our aim is to ensure that this important stage of your child’s development is enjoyable and you are aware of the opportunities we are offering your child.

We would like to explain the transition arrangements we have made for you to feel reassured about your child starting school. We have arranged a comprehensive programme of events for you and your child to ensure that your child enters full time education in September 2018 feeling happy, secure and settled.

Some of the events are for you as parents to attend and others are for yourself and your child to attend.

          Welcome Meeting

On Tuesday 12th June 2018 starting at 6.00pm and lasting approximately an hour, we have planned a Welcome Meeting for parents/carers only.

At this meeting you will have opportunity to:

  • Have a short introduction from our Head Teacher, Mrs Claire Lyles.
  • Meet Senior Leaders and the staff in the Reception Classes.
  • See a presentation showing the children taking part in lots of exciting activities.
  • Receive information about the school day.
  • Receive information about school routines and medicines from our School Business Manager, Mrs Kay Newton.
  • Receive information about our school lunches from our School Catering Supervisor, Mrs Loraine Middleton, and taste some of the lunch options available.
  • Meet our Chair of Governors, Mrs Jill Knowles.

Open Afternoons

As an alternative to Home Visits we have planned to hold three Open Afternoons when you and your child can visit school and spend 30 minutes in the Reception classes experiencing lots of different activities. This will give you and your child experiences to talk about during the summer holiday. The sessions we will have available are:

  • Monday 25th June 2108 between 1.30-3.00pm
  • Tuesday 26th June 2018 between 1.30-3.00pm
  • Thursday 28th June 2018 between 1.30-3.00pm

It will also give you an opportunity to speak to your child’s class teacher and other staff.

At the welcome meeting on Tuesday 12th June you will be able to sign up for the most convenient afternoon session to visit our school.

Transition Day

On Tuesday 3rd July a transition day will be taking place for all children in school. The children can visit school and spend an afternoon with their new classmates.

The children can come to their Reception Class at 1.30pm where you will leave them with the Reception staff to meet all their new friends. You can collect your child from their classroom at 3.00pm.

We are looking forward to meeting you and your family at these events and we hope you find our transition programme both informative and supportive.
