Welcome to our school website
My name is Claire Lyles, I am proud to be Head Teacher of our popular school.
We are a large primary set in Liversedge, West Yorkshire and are part of Kirklees Local Authority. We are a friendly school and warmly welcome visitors to come and look around. We are two form entry, admitting children from Reception to Year 6. We currently have 424 pupils on roll. We pride ourselves on being a large school whilst maintaining a small school ‘feel’.
Our pupils behave well and are a pleasure to meet. They are enthusiastic about their learning and try hard to achieve the best they can in all areas. It is important to us that our pupils are happy and motivated. We rightly have a keen focus on Reading, Writing and Maths skills but pride ourselves on supporting children to be good citizens and have the confidence and resilience to live in the modern world getting on well with people. We have a huge focus on their effort and believe this will take them a long way in life.
As a school we’ve been proud of our reputation for a rounded curriculum including sports, music and art. Beyond the national curriculum, we aim to find the thing that makes your child special, their individual talents and to help them to shine.
We embrace the fact that we are educating a generation of children who will go out into the world to do jobs that may not have yet been invented. Our aim is to make them life-long learners and equip them with the confidence, people skills and eagerness to succeed and to be happy.
With the support of my Deputy, Phill, we lead a team of hardworking professionals who strive to ensure that our pupils have the best opportunities in their time with us. We try hard to lead by example. We provide a safe, healthy and nurturing environment for all our pupils, their families and our community, embracing and developing values for life which inspire and encourage all children to thrive and reach their full potential.
Our school motto is ‘Norristhorpe Together’ and we really embrace this feeling of working in partnership. We have an "open door" policy and a strong tradition of parental support, both in school and in special events such as productions, school galas etc. We have a committed, hardworking Governing Body who represent our parents and the community in our joint effort to make the school the best it can be.
We work hard to continually improve and to give our pupils the best start in their education. Our school has been recognised several times as one of the highest performing schools in Yorkshire. Our SATs results in July 2024 show that our pupils have performed well above the Local Authority and national average.
Thank you for taking the time to visit our school site, should you require any further information please do not hesitate to contact a member of our team.
