Train to Teach at Norristhorpe School!
Norristhorpe is an exceptional place to learn and our team works hard to ensure that pupils flourish and achieve their potential. We help children to grow in confidence and foster a lifelong love of learning, equipping them with the tools to succeed, both now and in the future.
As an ECT (Early Careers Teacher) or a trainee teacher you will be provided with the necessary tasks, experience and support to enable you to demonstrate satisfactory performance against the Teaching Standards. ECTs and Trainee teachers will have an experienced appointed mentor who will guide and support you through the induction period and university modules.
We also have developed links with our local secondary schools (Spen Valley High and Mirfield Grammar) and have welcomed students from these settings as part of their work experience offer.

‘As soon as I came to Norristhorpe, I was welcomed by my mentor and I already felt that I belonged to the class. I couldn’t have asked for a better mentor. She constantly gave me feedback, which I was able to take on board and implement. My mentor would advise me in all areas of being a teacher and was a great role model. I made a lot of progress on this placement on my journey to being a teacher’. (Hafsah Hussain -Huddersfield University)
‘I am so glad that I chose to do my work experience placement at Norristhorpe Junior and Infant School. The staff and team in Reception made me feel very welcome and offered helpful, support, guidance and advice. I enjoyed working closely with the children as well as completing some of the administrative tasks to support the class teacher. My placement was a very rewarding learning experience where I was able to put into practise many core values such as team work, respect, responsibility and patience.
Thank you Norristhorpe for this opportunity. ‘

'My experience undergoing my second year placement at Norristhorpe Junior and Infant School was truly fantastic! The staff and pupils at the school made me feel so welcome and part of the team which definitely helped me develop my skills and practice as a student teacher. Norristhorpe provided many experiences of learning for both myself and the children which made this placement so memorable. My confidence has grown both in and out of the classroom.
I am so thankful for being able to support the Year 2 team and seeing the children progress, I really enjoyed it.'
